Paul A. Byrne, 69, passed away on August 24, 2009 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 23 years Carlene Baker Byrne of Cookeville; a stepson Mike Lemons and partner Gwen Sanford of Spring City, TN; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Mike Bowman; three grandsons, Brian, Justin, and Austin Bowman, all of Cookeville. Three sisters also survive him; Agnes Abernathy of Springfield TN, Betty Fisher of Goodlettsville, TN and Lynda Ann Citro and brother-in-law Bill Citro of Columbus OH. He has two brothers who survive him, Jimmy Byrne of Cedar Hill TN and Don Byrne and wife Betty of Springfield TN. A very special cousin, Sue Burgess of Cedar Hill TN and numerous nieces and two nephews also survive him. Two stepchildren of a previous marriage, Larry Newgent of Cookeville, and Rene Newgent Hubbard survive Mr. Byrne. His parents, Tom and Mary Alice Byrne, and four brothers, Bobby, Tommy, Billy and Mickey Byrne preceded him in death. Mr. Byrne was a retired Tennessee State Trooper after serving twenty five years where he earned the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was active in his Sunday School Class and the JOY Club. Memorial Services will be Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Dr. Charles McCaskey and Rev. Perryn Rice will conduct the services. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and other Law Enforcement Officers.
