BAXTER CHAPEL-Paskell Wayne Burgess, a member of the Baxter community, passed away peacefully at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on February 3, 1950, in Baxter, Wayne was a devoted father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who greatly impacted the lives of those around him.
For many years, he dedicated his career to construction, lending his expertise in heavy equipment to both Civil Construction Co. and Wright Bros. His professionalism and work ethic were admired by colleagues and clients alike, earning him respect in the industry.
Wayne found joy in various hobbies including fishing, hunting, and shooting his guns. He particularly cherished spending time with family and friends, creating memories that will last for generations. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Burgess Jenkins; sister, Cleo Cole; granddaughters, Lacey (Josh) Myers and Lindsey Vaughn all of Cookeville; and his great-grandchildren, Kai, Beau, Hunter, Brookelynne, and Raelyn; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Wayne will also be remembered fondly by his loyal puppy, Wallie.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Paskell and Ocia Erma Rice Burgess, as well as six siblings: Ruby Helen Helms, Ruthie Lee Boyd, Reba Joyce Flatt, Willie Dillon Burgess, Robert Dale Burgess, and Lloyd Ray Dean Burgess. Their memory continues to live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Baxter Chapel, located at 532 4th Ave. South in Baxter, TN, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Allison Cemetery in Baxter. Bro. Clayton Lee, Jr. will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Matt Kilgore, Seth Kilgore, Greg Cole, Allan Short, Casey Flatt and Tony Behrens.
Wayne Burgess leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honor of sharing in his life.
