Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Brown Grissom, 94, will be on Wednesday, August 24 at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ with Buddy Johnson and David Vaughn officiating. She will be laid to rest at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Turkeytown Cemetery in Clay County, TN. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and again Wednesday from 10 – 11 a.m. at the church. Mrs. Grissom peacefully left this world on Thursday, 18 August 2016 at her son's home in Smyrna TN. She was born 18 February 1922 in Clay County TN, the daughter of Napoleon Francis Brown and Livie Lee Boles Brown. She owned and operated Opal's Beauty Shop on Logan Street, Noblesville IN, for 46 years and was a faithful devoted member of the Green Valley Church of Christ in Noblesville for 52 years. She retired at the age of 80 and moved to Cookeville TN in August of 2002 to be closer to family. Once settled in, she became a faithful member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ and cherished her new friendships both there and the Upper Cumberland Christian Homes where she resided for 14 wonderful years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cohen C. Grissom, four brothers - Roy, Parker, Wilburn & Houston Brown and five sisters - Kate Backler, Eva Hall, Emma Brown, Ona Collins and Verda Miller. She is survived by son Eddie (Marcia) Grissom of Smyrna TN, daughter Donna (Jim) Byrnes Orlando FL, four grandsons - Stacey (Rocio) Grissom- Nashville TN, Scott (Cami) Grissom-Thompsons Station TN, Eric Grissom-Smyrna TN, Jimmy Byrnes-Orlando FL and six great-grandchildren Emily, Cameron, Sandra, Miranda, Carlea and Sydney. She is also survived by her loving brother Willard Brown, Cookeville TN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
