Odell Mccowan

MUDDY POND, TN-Mr. Odell McCowan, affectionately known as Odell to his friends and family, departed this life on May 27, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on September 29, 1938, in Overton County, TN, he was a lifelong resident of the area he cherished, and it was in this same beloved community that he drew his last breath, surrounded by the rolling hills and the familiar sights of home.

Odell was a man whose life was defined by the love he had for his family and the pride he took in his work. For 25 years, he dedicated his skills as a highly respected dye setter at the former Stillman in Cookeville. His strong work ethic and meticulous attention to detail were hallmarks of his career and earned him the admiration of his colleagues.

Outside of work, Odell could often be found embracing the outdoors, where he took pleasure in the simple joys of watching nature unfold around him. His love for the environment was only matched by the pride he felt for his grandchildren, whose achievements and milestones were among his greatest joys.

In his passing, Odell is preceded by his dear mother, Myrtle McCowan; his brother, Junior McCowan; and sister, Joyce Towens. His legacy continues through his beloved wife of 66 years, Lillie Phillips McCowan, who stood by him through every season of life. His memory will be cherished by his devoted daughter, Beth Miller, and his son, Jerry Walker. Odell's spirit will live on in the lives of his grandchildren, Jeremy Walker, Jr., Christian Walker, Cody Miller, Caitlin Miller, and Gracie Harris, as well as his nine great-grandchildren, who will continue to learn from the values he instilled in them.

A graveside service and interment will be held Thursday, May 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Weeks Cemetery. Brian Koehn will officiate.
