Nowlen Simmons

Graveside services and interment for William Nowlen Simmons, age 81 of Cookeville and formerly of Sparta, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 29 at Carter Cemetery in White County. Dr. Jason Yarbrough will officiate.

His family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Nowlen passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville.

He was born April 25, 1941 in White County, TN to the late Lonnie and Flora Blaylock Simmons.

Nowlen was retired from Sparta Spoke Factory with over 40 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, cabinet building, and helping friends with any building projects.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lou Ann Elrod Simmons, whom he married May 29, 1964; two sons, Marty (Susan) Simmons and Stephen (Sarah) Simmons both of Cookeville; brother, Lonnie Simmons of Cookeville; sister-in-law, Joyce Simmons of Smyrna, TN; grandchildren, Jocelyn (Nathaniel) Davis, Joelle Simmons, Sophie, Rylee, and Jack Simmons; great-grandchildren, Claire, Brooklyn, and Lucas Davis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Simmons.
