Memorial services for Norma Lee Tamer Hess, age 84, of Cookeville, were held Saturday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Rev Joe Weatherly officiated. Mrs. Hess left this life Saturday, March 27, 2021 at her home following a long struggle with cancer. She was born on May 13, 1936 in Norton, VA to the late Fred Joseph Tamer and Evelyn Swain Tamer Harry (Bill Harry). Mrs. Hess married the Rev. Cameron Mason Hess in 1955. Father Hess preceded her in death in 2008. She graduated from Christiansburg High School in Christiansburg, VA and from the University of TN at Martin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. After raising six children, Mrs. Hess worked outside the home as a pre-school teacher at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cookeville and for the State of TN Department of Corrections as a Youth Probation Officer until her retirement. She is survived by five sons: Mike (Maria) Hess of Wasilla, Alaska; Rik (Andrea) Hess of Cookeville, Todd (Kim) Hess of Cookeville, Tim Hess of Crossville, and Doug Hess of Frederick, Colorado; daughter, Cathy Langford of Cookeville; ten grandchildren: Daniel Hess, Torey (Katy) Hess, Christopher Hess, Ty (April) Langford, Taylor (Casey) Ferrell, Alexandrea Hess, Mason Hess, Hayden Hess, Ava Hess, and Ella Hess; and nine great-grandchildren: Tucker Hess, Keller Hess, Rettie Jane Ferrell, Saydee Ferrell, Tenley Kate Hess, Avery Ferrell, Adelaide Langford, Aubrey Langford, and Brody Ferrell. Our Norma was a true servant of God and spent her life in quiet service of Him. She inspired all who were blessed to know and love her. While she will be missed, we rejoice in knowing she is, at last, home. We are saddened to announce that due to COVID-19 pandemic precautions, the memorial service for Mrs. Hess was limited to family only. In lieu of flowers, we asked that memorial contributions be made to Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements (931) 526-6111.
