Neomia Cowan

Funeral services for Ms. Neomia Cowan, age 92 of Cookeville, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 7 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Raymond Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Cowan Cemetery in Putnam County. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Ms. Cowan died Tuesday morning, January 5, 2016 at Life Care Center of Sparta, TN where she spent the last year of her life. She was born November 26, 1923 in Smith County, TN to the late Wade Hampton and Willie Young Cowan. Ms. Cowan moved back to Tennessee after retiring from Bell Telephone Company in Michigan in 1981. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Carmillus, William Roscoe, J.P., and Douglas Cowan; and eight sisters, Lola Bush, Clara Draper, Lorene Close, Christine Cowan, Vida Robinson, Daisy Bush, Hettye Burgess, and Ethel Fielder. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Knight of Warner Robins, GA and Odean Knight of Soddy Daisy, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ms. Cowan's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
