Nellie West

Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Martin West, age 92, of Algood, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday October 4 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Shelton will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time. Mrs. West passed away Sunday October 1, 2017 at Signature Health Care in Algood, TN. She was born May 24, 1925 in Cookeville to the late James A. and Francis King Martin. Mrs. West graduated from Cookeville Central High School in 1943. She joined Algood United Methodist Church in 1947 and was a faithful member for over 70 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl West; and her brother, Dallas O. Martin. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Sam Short of Mt. Juliet; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Debe West, Michael and Janice West, all of Cookeville; six grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Robinson, Lori (Tommy) Shelton, Bryan (Julie) West, Craig (Amber) West, Samuel (Brooklyn) Short, and Craig (Rachel) Short; two nieces, Peggy (Mickey) Willis of Augusta, GA, and Patsy (Jimmy) Spinks of Warner Robins, GA; a nephew, John R Martin, also of Warner Robins, GA and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bryan West, Craig West, Samuel Short, Craig Short, Howard Bilbrey, and Michael Robinson. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Mrs. West's caregivers, especially the staff at Signature Health Care, Bettie Key, and Wendy Towers.
