Nell Lamb

d. November 12, 2019

Funeral services for Nell Farley Lamb, age 91 of Cookeville, will be Sunday, November 17, at 3 p.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Sebastian will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Lamb was born January 12, 1928 in Putnam County TN to the late Tom and Della Maynard Farley. She grew up in the Mill Creek area of Monterey, TN with her siblings, the late T.M. Farley, the late Bazil Farley, the late late Joyce Mackie, and the late Bernice Flatt. She's always been known for her dedicated hard work ethic from working at the Cookeville Shirt Factory, Big K, and as a department manager at Wal-Mart. It was during the time she worked at the shirt factory that she would catch rides into town for work, when she met and fell in love with the late Billy Joe "Red" Lamb, her husband of more than 59 years. The married September 1, 1950 and raised three special children together. She was always a hardworking supportive wife, especially helping "Red" as he ran for Putnam County Road Supervisor and held that office for 19 years. Her proudest accomplishment was being a loving and self-sacrificing mother to her children and their spouses, daugher Janice Faye Matlock of Old Hickory, TN, son Billy Stephen Lamb and wife Debbie of Cookeville, TN, and son Bruce Wayne Lamb and wife Donna of Livingston, TN. She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Rachael (Brandon) Sherrill, Austin and Sophia of Huntsville, AL; Jason Matlock of Chattanooga, TN; Sam (Jordan) Lamb, Harper of Sparta, TN; David (Jessica) Lamb, Weston and Charlie of Cookeville, TN; Reygan Lamb of Livingston, TN; Hannah (Austin)Ahrens of Cookeville, TN; and Keelie Lamb of Livingston, TN. Ma, as Nell was affectionately known, doted on all of them from always having fried apple pies, fried tators, to cornbread ready and waiting along with her hugs and kisses. She was an avid sports enthusiast when it came to her children and grandchildren, always attending games when younger; but never failing to continue listening on the radio even in her last days. Mrs. Nell attended Mill Creek Baptist for years raising her children in the Baptist faith. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist attending as long as her health allowed where she served in the nursery loving on babies when younger. She read her Bible daily and recently finished ready it through again, always learning from the Word. No one ever left her home hungry or unloved. She fed and loved all who entered her home. As her health declined these past few years, caretakers assisted in her care. Many were special to her and felt as close as family, especially Marsha Bowman who took extra care of "Mrs. Nell." She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but is healthy and whole again in heaven with Jesus. Memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Basketball, c/o Kentucky Wesleyan College, 3000 Federica Street, Owensboro, KY 42301. Hooper Huddleston and Horner is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111 You may share thoughts and memories at www.hhhfunerals.com.
