Funeral Services for Nathanael "NAT"� Andrew Harrison, 90 of Cookeville will be Wednesday, July 18 at 1 P.M. from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home , interment with military honors will be at Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Harrison died Saturday, July 14, 2012 in NHC of Cookeville. A resident of Cookeville since 1951, Mr. Harrison was born March 15, 1922 at Keystone, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Joseph Daniel Harrison and Flora Brown Harrison. His family includes wife of over 64 years (Married Dec. 20, 1947 in Knoxville, TN), Margaret Dyer Harrison, his son and daughter-in-law Mark Andrew Harrison and Judy McKee Harrison, and their sons, Joseph Andrew and Mark Daniel Harrison of Athens, GA; his son and daughter-in-law Timothy Paul and Alice Nesnia Harrison, and their son, Nathaniel Nesnia Harrison of Cookeville; and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Rumberger of Cuyahoga Falls, OH. In addition to his deceased parents, he is preceded in death by brothers , Norman William Harrison and Samuel Paul Harrison and sisters, Rhoda May Harrison and Evangeline Martha Coleman. Mr. Harrison received the A.A. Degree from Hiwassee College, the B.S. Degree in Biology from Tennessee Tech (then T.P.I.) and the M.S. Degree in Bacteriology from University of Kentucky; he attended the University of Georgia also. He served in Europe in the U.S. Army Medical Department during World War II. He began teaching in the Department of biology at Tennessee Tech in 1951 and continued until retirement in the summer of 1987. During his tenure, he served as acting Departmental Chairman 1966-1967, supervisor of the general biology program 1962-1968, and instructor of various courses, including all departmental bacteriology courses. He was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award for 1982-1983. As a member of the Cookeville First Presbyterian Church since 1951, he served terms as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Secretary. He was a Life Member of the Alumni Board of Governors of Hiwassee College and was awarded the Alumnus of the Year award in 1998. He has been a member of the American Society for Microbilology since 1950, serving in several positions, including Educational Representative, Vice Counselor and President of the Kentucky-Tennessee Branch. Active Pallbearers will be Joe F. Dyer, Jr., Charles Lex Dyer, Gary Richard Dyer, Bill Dyer, Rusby Tittsworth, Andy Dyer, Michael Dyer, Patrick Dyer, Frank Dyer, Joseph Andrew Harrison, Mark Daniel Harrison, Nathaniel Nesnia Harrison, and Matthew Wilhelm, Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray Jordan and Albert Wilhelm. The family is honoring Mr. Harrison"�s explicit wishes by requesting no flowers, please. Instead, memorial contributions may be made to Hiwassee College Building Fund, Hiwassee College, 225 Hiwassee College Drive, Madisonville, TN 37354. The Rev. Pat Handlson , Pastor of Cookeville First Presbyterian Church, will officiate at the services. The family will receive friends after 11 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
