Naomi Ferris

After a life well lived, Naomi Ferris passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by her loving family on March 18, 2015 at the age of 80. Her parents, Casper and Sally McDaniel, predeceased her. Naomi is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Herbert Ferris, and children: Rita Anderson (husband Bill) of Cookeville, Vickie Nixon of Columbus OH, Herbert Ferris Jr. “Butch” (wife Shelia) of Lafayette, and Darrel Ferris (Wife Michelle) of Wedowee AL. She was the beloved grandmother to: Toni Harrison, Lee Ferris, Kyle Nixon, Stacia Crocker and Danielle Ferris. Naomi was one of seventeen children and is survived by her sisters; Irma Parker, Minnie Proffitt, Lena Robinson and many nieces and nephews and cousins by the dozens. Naomi enjoyed spending time with and supporting her family through their many life events. Her greatest joy was caring for her children and grandchildren. After her youngest child entered high school she started as an attendant in the Park Hills High School cafeteria in Fairborn, OH. After moving to Cookeville TN, she worked at the Acme Boot Factory and later at Long John Silvers. Naomi was an avid Yahtzee and Shanghai Rummy player winning many more games than she lost! She also enjoyed visiting different parts of the world with her family, traveling as far as Canada, England, Ireland, and Scotland. She traveled across the US stopping at places like the Grand Canyon and Mexico on the way to California. She also took a family cruise to Alaska and enjoyed seeing the whales swimming near the cruise ship. The family would like to thank the staff that cared for Naomi at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, Bethesda Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, and Avalon Hospice of Cookeville for their kind and compassionate care. Also, the family would like to thank our wonderful extended family and friends for their support and prayers during mom’s illness. Visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2015 at Dyer Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 21, 2015 from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
