Myrtle Dennis

Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Frances Dennis, age 87 of Cookeville will be held Friday June 9 at 11 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Shipley Cemetery. Rev. Keith Tosh and Rev. Steve Murphree will officiate. Mrs. Dennis died Tuesday morning June 6, 2017 in Signature Health Care Center in Algood. She was born September 13, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Cecil B. and Ina Frances Apple Vinson. She was raised in Granville where her family moved soon after her birth. After several years in Granville, they made their home in Cookeville. She was a long-time member of Bangham Heights Baptist Church and retired from Tennessee Tech University with over 35 years of service as Text Book Manager. Mrs. Dennis was an avid quilter and wonderful seamstress having won numerous 1st Place Blue Ribbons in the Putnam County Fair and Tennessee State Fair. She was an outstanding cook, and everyone was always invited to eat at her table. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dexter Dennis, a sister, Nell Vickers and brother, Thurman Vinson. Survivors include her three daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Sonny Holt of Shelbyville, TN, Joyce and Danny Sutton of Cookeville, and Brenda and Larry Henson of Crossville; 10-grandchildren, Mike Cass, Greg (Miranda) Cass, Eddie (Calina) Gaw, Jason (Erin) Gaw, Sam (Heather) Davidson, Cody Henson, Matt (Kelly) Henson, Tricia (Stan) Wofford, Daniel (Rachael) Sutton, and Meghan (Ben) Swann; and 14-great grandchildren. Mrs. Dennis' grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
