Mrs. Casey passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at her home in Cookeville. Born April 7, 1919 in Cleburne County, AL Myrtle was the daughter of the late Isaac Melton and Minnie Lesuer Woodward and was raised on a farm in Trickum Valley with six brothers and sisters. She attended Ranburne High School. Jeff Casey asked her to marry him and they wed April 5, 1941 in Heflin, AL. Myrtle worked as a garment inspector at Ft. McClelland during WWII. Their only child, Mike, was born in 1949 and Myrtle worked as a homemaker, tutor, and seamstress for her family. Myrtle accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord in 1942, was baptized and joined West Side Baptist Church. She has been a member for over 76 years where she taught Sunday School and served as the church clerk. She and Jeff taught the youth Sunday School, sang in the West Side Baptist Church Choir and worked with youth for many years. She had perfect attendance as a PTA parent never missing a meeting in Mike's 12 years of elementary and high school. Her hobby was cooking and sewing for her family. She sewed for the public for many years making and clothing many friends. She also was an avid gardener growing beautiful flowers that were admired city-wide. In her later years, she began exercising by walking at the Community Center. She walked up to 45 minutes a day, 6 days a week, into her 90's, earning distinction as the oldest walker at the Center. She loved and cherished her family, son, Mike (Grada) Casey; grandchildren, Jonathan (Leah) Casey and Emma Casey; and great-grandchildren, Julia, Ella, and Ben who lit up her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Essie Woodward, Mary Harris, and Geneva Howell; and three brothers, Roy, Lloyd, and JB Woodward. The family expresses sincere thankfulness to Myrtle's caregivers Tara White, Brenda Taylor, Janice Ledbetter and Debbie Garrett. God provided a quartet of angels to watch over our mother and grandmother this past year. Thanks to her church family at West Side Baptist Church for their prayers, cards, and use of the building for this service. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to West Side Baptist Church, 713 Mountain St. NW, Jacksonville, AL 36265. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Hay, Mark Washington, Larry Warden, Harry Warden, Bobbie Woodward, and Brandon Pisacrita.
