Mrs. Paige Pomeroy Marto

November 19, 1943 — November 25, 2015

Ms. Paige Pomeroy Marto, age 72, of Cookeville, passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Signature Health Care Center of Putnam County following an unusually courageous fifteen year battle with COPD and Emphysema. Ms. Marto has now received the Promise she has steadfastly believed in since June 17, 1973 when she was born again, and is now with The One she has so longed to see face-to-face, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born November 19, 1943 in Gloucester, MA to the late Dr. Irving H Pomeroy Jr. and Alice Ehler Pomeroy. Paige moved with her family to Norwich Hill in 1953. She was a cherished member of the Huntington High School Class of 1961. Paige later graduated, with Honors, from Gateway Regional Senior High School in 1967. She went on to earn her Associates Degree in Business and Accounting at Holyoke Community College in 1972 and graduated Class Valedictorian. In addition to her parents, Paige is preceded in death by a son; David Oakes, a sister; Paula Rix, a brother; Herb Pomeroy, and her beloved grandparents; Joseph Alexander and Nanny Ehler. Ms. Marto is survived by a son; Ronnie Oakes, of Cookeville and a daughter; Denise Horton (Husband John) of Salem NH, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her former husbands; Raymond Oakes of Peru, MA, and Thomas Marto of Cookeville as well as many friends and class mates. The family would like to extend their love and thankfulness to Sherrill Jourdan, Jeanette Horton, Alice Richardson, and every member of the Class of '61 who have stood with her, been kind and helpful during this most difficult time. Paige loved and appreciated every one of you. Although Ms. Marto thrived wherever life took her, she has always considered the Hill-towns of Western Massachusetts her true home, a place of peace and extraordinary beauty. Paige was well known for her love of animals and her appreciation of nature. She was an avid student of The Scriptures, a person of intelligence, deep faith and immense strength. She was also known for her skill on the piano and taught Sunday School in many churches over the years. Paige will be greatly missed by all who know and loved her. Even in her final hours, her faith remained rock-solid and never wavered, for she lived and believed everything she learned and taught without exception. Ms. Marto has chosen cremation, with interment at Norwich bridge Cemetery in Huntington, MA. A future private celebration of Ms. Marto's life is being planned, Ronnie Oakes officiating.
