A Memorial Service for Mr. Thomas Henry Smyth, age 75, of Cookeville, will be Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 11:00a.m. until time of the service. Mr. Smyth passed away Wednesday morning, October 7, 2015 at the Upper Cumberland Hospice and Palliative Care. He was born April 5, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Henry Field Smyth Jr. and Julia Thomas Smyth. Thomas was a twenty year veteran of the United States Navy. During his time with the Navy, he worked as an electrician. Following his retirement Thomas worked for the FAA in Pittsburgh PA and Ingalls Ship Builders in Pascagoula MS. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve and the American Legion. Thomas enjoyed woodworking as a productive hobby. Thomas is survived by his wife; Mary Ann Baer Smyth, three children; Thomas Henry Jr. (Ellen) Smyth of Clarksville TN, Tonja Sue (Wendell) Harter of Sparta TN and Tammy Lynn Thomas of Picayune MS, as well as one sister; Alice Smyth of Binghamton NY. In addition, MR. Smyth is survived by eight grandchildren; Brandy Michelle Harter, Travis Wade Harter, Joshua Ross Harter, Zachary William Thomas, Caleb Henry Thomas, Samuel Allen Thomas, Anne Katherine Smyth, and Emily (Emma) Baer Smyth and three great-grandchildren; Rylee Elizabeth Thomas, Jaiden Renee Harter and Dailen Trey Harter. In accordance with Mr. Smyth’s wishes, his remains will be buried at sea.
