Mr. Raymond Bice

Memorial service for Raymond Bice, 92, of Cookeville, will be held on Sunday, June 11th at 2pm. at the Heavenly Host Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Andrew Smith officiating. The family will be receiving visitors at the church from 1p.m. to time of service. Mr. Bice passed from this life on June 7th at NHC in Cookeville after a long illness. Mr. Bice was born in Portland, Oregon, to Raymond Bice, Sr, and Ruth Morris Bice. His mother passed away five days after Raymond’s birth. Mr. Bice was raised in Des Moines, Iowa by his paternal grandparents Edgar W, and C.Mae Bice. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1942, and shortly afterward enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific theater. After active service, Mr. Bice married Betty E. Danielson in 1946, with whom they raised four sons and were married for 53 years. Mrs. Bice preceded Raymond in death in 1999. Mr. Bice was a tool and die designer and maker, well-respected by peers for many years. His design work spanned a diverse group of products from the vertical stabilizer of the Boeing 707, to parts for Smith-Corona typewriters, to heating elements. Mr. Bice earned a patent while working for Teledyne-Stillman in Cookeville where he worked for several years before retirement. Mr. Bice is survived by four sons, Timothy (Marilyn)( of Rochester, New York, Peter, of Cookeville, Erik (Barbara) of Montgomery, Minnesota, and Brad (Susan) of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. He is also survived by several grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, along with a cousin, Pat Crawford of Portland, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Bice’s name to the American Heart Association and Heavenly Host Lutheran Church. Mr. and Mrs. Bice’s cremains will be interred in Des Moines.
