Funeral Services for Mr. Noble Cody, age 93, of Cookeville will be Friday, January 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Washington Avenue Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Cody passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1922 in Clarkrange TN to the late Virgil and Zona Hill Cody. Noble proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in WW II. In addition to owning Cody Office Supply for many years, Noble was also very active in our community. He was instrumental in establishing Junior Pro Basketball in Putnam County, was past president of the Monterey JC’s and was a member of the Optimist Club, Lions Club, and the Cookeville Rotary. Under his leadership as Mayor, Algood was transformed from a village to an incorporated city. Prior to becoming Mayor of Algood, Noble was principal of Algood High School. Noble also served on the Cookeville City Council, two terms on the Tennessee Board of Regents, and was a member of the Health Facilities Commission of Tennessee. In keeping with his love of sports, Noble was a basketball coach in Clarkrange and was an assistant to Raymond “Bull” Brown with the TTU Basketball program. He is a member of the Tennessee Tech Sports Hall of Fame, and was a member of the TTU Athletic Foundation. Mr. Cody was also very active politically and was known as the grandfather of the Republican Party of Putnam County for many years. Noble is survived by his wife, Gladys Jean Hall Cody, four children; Preston (wife Trudy) Cody of Cookeville, Jeanie Cody Holder of Franklin, Lindsey Cody of Knoxville, and Tracy (wife Audrey) Cody also of Cookeville. He is also survived by one sister, Margie “Tince” Cody South of Chicago IL, and one brother Dee Cody (wife Sue) of Chattanooga. In addition, Mr. Cody is survived by four grandchildren; Austin Cody, Kelly Holder Wright, Michael (wife Jen) Cody and Samuel Cody as well as one step-grand-daughter, Kisa Cox, one great-grandson Cody James Wright and a step-great-grandson, Kyndall Cox, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Noble was preceded in death by two brothers; Lindsey and Leonard Cody, two sisters; Lucille Elmore and Lurlene Robbins and an infant brother Eugene Cody, as well as dear friends; Harold Evans, Coach Raymond “Bull” Brown, and Mary Elizabeth Brown. Pallbearers will be Captain Randy Hoover THP, Michael Cody, Sam Cody, Austin Cody, Davis Watts, Rocky Cody, Frank Harrell, and Scott Pyburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred and Sonja Brown and Peggy Evans. Michael Detwiler, Scott McMillan, Dr. Bob Bell and Pastor Mark Gaw will be officiating the service.
