Mr. David Wilkerson

Funeral services for Mr. David Franklin Wilkerson, age 73, of Cookeville, will be Friday, May 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Rice Cemetery in White County. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Wilkerson passed away Monday evening, May 11, 2015 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was born June 16, 1941 in Putnam County TN to the late Augusta Bussell Wilkerson and Herman D. Wilkerson. David served his country in the Tennessee National Guard from 1964 to 1970. He began working at Williams Wholesale Supply in 1962 and retired from there after 40 years. In 1984 he and his wife bought Broadway Hardware Company in Sparta. Their store has become a successful family business that his family will proudly continue. Mr. Wilkerson was known for his friendliness, good humor and a mind for all things hardware. David loved people and was loved by many. David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Geraldene Cole Wilkerson, two sons; Steve (Vicki White) Wilkerson and Johnny (Jackie) Wilkerson both of Sparta, two daughters; Sonia (Michael) Null of Sparta and Sara (Travis) Morgan of Cookeville as well as three grandsons; Holden Null, Jonathan David Wilkerson, and Matthew Null, all of Sparta. In addition Mr. Wilkerson is survived by one brother; Bob (Jane) Wilkerson of Sparta, his mother-in-law; Beatrice Cole, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Buford (Vicky) Cole of Sparta, Wanda (Ralph) Fisher of Cleveland, Judy (Bill) Trobaugh, Janice (Jere) Gentry, Patricia (Malcolm) Franklin, Regina (Dale) Sherrell, and Rebecca Allen all of Baxter and one special niece; Sharon Wilkerson Vaughn of Cookeville, as well as host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by five brothers; Donald, Denver, Harold, Ray, and Vernon Wilkerson. Pallbearers will be Buford Cole, Bill Trobaugh, Mark Wilkerson, David Harold Wilkerson, Edgbert Scarlet, and Butch Frost. The three grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Bro. David Eldridge and Bro. Harold Walker will be conducting the service. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Beau Kelly, for whose mind and heart, they will forever be grateful.
