Mildred Lassiter

Graveside services and interment for Ms. Mildred Lassiter, age 92 of Oak Ridge, TN and formerly of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday May 7 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery in Dekalb County, TN with Bro. Buddy Johnson officiating. Mrs. Lassiter died Saturday evening May 3, 2014 in the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was born July 15, 1921 in Dekalb County, Tennessee to the late William Edgar and Bertha Pugh Lassitser. Mildred attended Freed Hardeman University and graduated from Middle Tennessee Start University. In the early days of the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, she was employed in Tennessee Eastman's Payroll Department at the Y-12 Plant before moving to the K-25 Plant operated by Union Carbide where she worked as a Laboratory Analyst. Later she was a claims representative for the Social Security Administration in the Cookeville Area after having served in that position in the Panama City and Nashville areas. For more than 50 years she was an active member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Elmer Lassiter and sisters, Elsie Slatton and Clara Fox. Survivors include her sister, Ruth Lassiter of Oak Ridge; nieces, Betty Boyd, Beverly Hutchins, and Teresa Simmons; as well as several grand nieces and grandnephews. Ms. Lassister's family will receive friends immediately following the services at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tennessee Children's Home PO Box 10, Spring Hill, TN 37174 for purchase of Bibles for Children and Youth.
