Mildred Lucile “Mimi” (Brown) Boutwell, 90, of Cookeville, Tennessee, formerly of Decatur, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at her residence. She was born June 8, 1932, in Butler County, Alabama to the late Thomas Clarence Brown and Lucile Crum Brown. Mildred attended Georgiana High School in Georgiana, Alabama. She graduated from Calhoun College in Decatur, Alabama with the degree of Associate in Applied Science with a Major in Medical Records Technology. Mildred and Ken, her husband of 47 years, began their married life in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After the births of their two children, the family followed Ken’s career to Huntsville, Alabama, settling in Decatur, Alabama. Mildred was a stay-at-home Mother for many years, leading a successful household. In 1974, she began working outside the home for Charter Retreat Hospital in the Medical Records Department. She was a member of Decatur First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. In 2012, Mildred moved to Cookeville, Tennessee to live closer to her daughter and family. She attended Cookeville First Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, listening to gospel music, cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide, traveling, exercise classes, baking for her grandchildren, and attending her grandchildren’s school events, dance recitals, ballgames, and plays. Mildred lived to serve others. She surrounded herself with friends and family, which is where she felt most comfortable and loved. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, quick wit, and her loving and sincere spirit. Mildred believed in the power of prayer. She is survived by one son, Kenneth Rowland Boutwell, Jr. of Mason, Ohio; one daughter, Nancy Lucille Boutwell Forrester (Nelson) of Cookeville, Tennessee; four grandchildren - Sallie Rowland Forrester of Jackson, Tennessee; Grady Nelson Forrester, III of Brooklyn, New York; Jacob Ryan Boutwell of Mason, Ohio; and Zachary James Boutwell of Mason Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Rowland Boutwell, Sr., and a brother, Bibb Brandon Brown. At Mildred’s request, a private family graveside service will be held in Decatur Alabama on Saturday, August 20th. Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111.
