Michael Helms

BAXTER-Funeral services for Mr. Michael Helms, age 66 of the Elmwood community of Smith County, will be held Thursday, September 21st at 1pm at the Baxter chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Eld. Rickey Hall will officiate. Interment will follow in Smellage Memory Gardens.

His family will receive friends Wednesday from 4pm until 8pm and again Thursday from 12pm until service time at the Baxter chapel.

Helms died Friday September 15, 2023 at Riverview Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 30, 1957 in Cookeville, TN to the late Luther "Luke" and Nancy Edmonds Helms.

He worked as a construction lead. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding old cars and going to car shows. In his early years, he enjoyed motorcycle riding. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking around. He was a happy man and remained so even when he was sick and not feeling well.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Washer; an infant stepson, Carlon Kirby; and by a grandson, Michael Martinez.

A devoted family man, is survived by his wife of 43 years, Veronica Davis Helms; a sister, Debbie Gravley; stepchildren, Eddie Davis (Beth), Carl Davis (Lita), Cynthia Phillips (Trinity) and Christpher Burchett; grandchildren, Angelique, Damian, Ariel, Paige, Andrea, Lee, Josh, Theresa, Daniel, Wyatt, Isaac, Kaiden, Carmine; and by numerous great grandchildren.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
