Mattie Burgess

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Lee Burgess, age 81 of Cookeville, will be held Friday June 19 at 11 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Johnny Fox will officiate. Mrs. Burgess's family will receive friends Friday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. She died suddenly Monday evening June 15, 2015 at her home. Mrs. Burgess was born June 6, 1934 in Algood, Tennessee to the late Ellis and Dorothy Myrtle Gibbons Boles. Mrs. Burgess was a long-time Associate with the former Wilson Sporting Goods and later worked several years for Russell Stover. She was a graduate of Algood High School and a member of Sycamore Church of Christ for over 40 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Burgess; grandson, Travis West; four sisters, Gladys Boles, Beulah Garrison, Delta Vinson, and Cleo Boles; and four brothers, George Boles, John D. Boles, Willie Boles, and Elbert Boles. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Gail and Jack Rice and Cindy West all of Cookeville; step-son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Vicky Burgess of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren, Chad (Megan) Rice, Tyler (Rachel) Rice, Adam (Heather) West, Kamaryn Burgess, and Schylar Burgess; five great grandchildren, Chandler, Cole, and Bailey West, Gavin Rice, and Shai Gaw; and her sister-in-law, Mildred Boles of Cookeville. Pallbearers will be Chad Rice, Tyler Rice, Randy West, Chandler West, and Adam West (also serving in memory of Travis West).
