Mattie Bowman Stewart

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mattie Elene Bowman Stewart, Age 78, of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday, July 7, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. again Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in the West Cemetery. Mrs. Stewart passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Dekalb County Community Hospital. Mattie was born February 19, 1936 in Cookeville TN to the late Cosby Robert Bowman and Addieville Sherrell Bowman. She worked in the healthcare field before retirement, as well as working at Acme Boot several years ago. Mattie enjoyed quilting, reading, canning and caring for her family. She was a member of the Holladay Church of Christ. Mattie is survived by her husband, Billy Stewart, two children; Michael Pippin (fianc Amanda Smith) of Baxter, and Angela Eaton (Chris) of Lebanon MO. She is also survived by four brothers; Finis Bowman (Charlie Mae) of Donelson TN, Truman Bowman (Vivian) of Cookeville, Jerry Bowman (Bonnie) of Mt Juliet TN, and David Bowman (Donna) of Baxter. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Brandi Eaton, Amanda Eaton, Christopher Eaton, and Chelsey Pippin, as well as six great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Leonard Maddux. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters; Geraldine Lollar and Jewel Maddux; one brother; Jessie James Bowman; two former husbands; C. H. Daniels and the children’s father, Andy Shurell Pippin. Pallbearers will be the nephews and honorary pallbearers will be her brothers and her brother-in-law. Bro. Johnny Fox and Bro. Denton Ramsey will officiate the service.
