A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Matthew Jeffrey James, age 31 of Cookeville, TN and formerly of Griffin, GA will be held Saturday, June 13th at 2:30 p.m. at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home in Griffin. Mr. Shane Steward will officiate. His family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. He was born November 22, 1988 in Griffin to Debbie James (Steve) Cummins and the late Jeffrey Howard James. Matthew worked in the construction business. He enjoyed outdoor activities, playing many sports, listening to and playing music, and discussing politics. He loved life, his family and friends, and paying it forward. In addition to his father, Matthew was preceded in death by grandfather Howard E. James, Jr., grandmother Elizabeth Wells Martin, grandparents David and Joan Cummins, and by a beloved cousin, Eric Hipps. In addition to his mother and step-father, he is survived by brother, Jonathan (Kris) James of Atlanta, GA; sister, Rebecca James of Boulder, CO; step-brother Hunter Cummins of Kennesaw, GA; step-sister Emily Cummins of Nashville, TN, grandparents, Jimmy and Heather Martin of Griffin, GA; grandfather, Edward Acosta of Melbourne, FL; aunts, Lisa Acosta Woodby of South America, Michelle Hemphill of Griffin, GA, and Susan Beauter of NM, and uncle Jeff Hipps of Palm Harbor, FL. He is also survived by cousins Vanessa Prestage (Eric) Reeve of Snellville, Ga; Michelle Hipps of Palm Harbor, FL; Brandon (Hailey) Betsill of Griffin, GA; Alex Betsill (John) Gray of Griffin, GA; Luke Woodby of South America; Lauren Thompson of Cookeville, TN, and Darrell Thompson of Cookeville, TN. Niece Lily James and nephew Jeffrey James of Atlanta, GA. A Celebration Gathering will take place for Cookeville friends and family on Friday, June 19, at The Farm beginning at 7:00 pm.
