Mary Tate

Mary Hortense Brantley Tate, born August 6, 1914 in Paris, Texas, passed away peacefully September 25, 2014 at Standing Stone Care and Rehab Center in Monterey, TN at the age of 100 years. She was a resident of Nashville for over 48 years and the Cookeville area her last 14 years. A 1930 graduate of Paris High School, she then received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas in 1934. She was married on December 19, 1936 in Memphis TN to James Richard Tate, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1980. Mary was an avid golfer and a member of Hillwood Country Club for many years. She was also a member and officer of the Nashville Garden Club as well as an invaluable asset to her husband Dick's business, J.R. Tate Company. She is survived by her son James R. Tate, Jr. and his wife Jan of Pawleys Island, SC along with their children Emily of Nashville and Graham of Cookeville. The family wishes to thank the staff at Standing Stone Care and Rehab for their care and compassion for the last three years. At her request, her ashes will join her husband's.
