Graveside services for Mary Ruth Byrd, 97, of Cookeville will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 1 at Dodson Chapel Cemetery.
Miss Byrd passed away on May 17, 2024 at Life Care in Sparta, Tennessee. She was born on January 6, 1927, in Pickett County to the late Fred Darnell and Ova Elizabeth Clark Byrd.
Miss Byrd was a Christian of strong faith. She was a factory worker in Livingston and Cookeville but her love for children led her to be a nanny for a family in New York for two brief periods in her life. Her love of America and her family history led her to be a strong supporter of the U.S. Military and veterans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Jane Byrd, Elizabeth Ann Byrd, Susie Anita Hensley and Virginia Jewel Byrd; brothers, Charles Rueben Byrd, Payton Tyson Byrd, Porter Victor Byrd, Fred Darnell Byrd Jr. and Buddy Paul Byrd.
She is survived by Danny and Lyllis Byrd of Byrdstown and numerous nieces and nephews.
