BAXTER CHAPEL-Mary Charlene "Charle" Leftwich, a beloved caregiver, devoted mother, and cherished friend, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at St. Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, at the age of 62. Born on June 3, 1962, in Smithville, Tennessee, Charle was a proud graduate of Putnam County Senior High School. She spent her life giving selflessly to those around her, particularly through her work as a caregiver for friends and grandchildren.
Charle was actively involved in the Baxter Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels program, ensuring that many in her community received the nourishment and support they needed. Her passion for family and community extended into her participation in Baxter sports leagues, where she followed the athletic endeavors of her children and grandchildren. Charle also enjoyed attending the Baxter and Granville Festivals, always eager to connect with her friends and share in the joyous moments of life. One of her favorite pastimes was riding the "Holler" to observe the beautiful wildlife, especially in the Granville area, a reflection of her deep appreciation for nature.
Her commitment to faith and community was evident through her membership in Baxter United Methodist Church, where she found solace and fellowship among her church family.
Charle served as crossing guard at Baxter Elementary School for 20 years, also worked with Omni Vision with the foster children program.
Charle leaves behind a loving husband, Donald Lewis Leftwich, of Baxter, alongside their children: son Calvin (Lashay Davis) Leftwich of Baxter and daughters Rachel Hewitt of Tahlequah, Oklahoma Shonna (Kaleb) Block, and Donna (Shad) Mathis, both of Baxter, Tennessee. She is also survived by her brothers, James Rose of Sparta, Tennessee, and Gerald (Melanie) Bradley of Crossville, Tennessee, as well as her adored grandchildren: Noah Hastings, Michael Foster, Gunner Block, Kaylie Block, Joseph Block, Jerry Mathis, and Shaden Mathis, and several nieces and nephews; special friends, Lesa Davis Jones, Susan Benton, D.J. Greer and Della Brown.
Charle is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Alice Shannon Rose, and her brother, Randy Rose.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM, both taking place at Baxter Chapel Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home located at 532 4th Street, Baxter, TN 38544.
