Mary Ellen Mcgugin

Funeral services for Mary Ellen McGugin, age 80 of Cookeville, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday June 26 at Algood United Methodist Church. Pastor Bobby Davis will officiate. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and again Sunday from 2 p.m. until service time at the church. Ellen passed away Sunday June 19, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born August 28, 1941 in Cookeville to the late Virgil and Mary Ila Ray Murphy. Ellen was a graduate of Tennessee Tech where she earned a degree in Home Economics. She owned and operated McGugin Oil Company. She supported the community in many areas, including serving as a Board Member of the Salvation Army, and as a Cub Scout Den Leader. She supported many local organizations including the Middle Tennessee Friends of Scouting and was a former member of the Algood Jaycets. Ellen was a member of Algood United Methodist Church. She loved to play golf and enjoyed studying history. She is survived by three daughters, Sherry Clark and Teresa Danner both of Cookeville, and Becky (Axel) Gray of Ponte Verde Beach, FL; son, Harry (Sherry) McGugin of Cookeville; two sisters, Marilyn Hand of Clarksville and Elizabeth McKinley of Cookeville; nine grandchildren, Alison (Josh) King, Matt (Candace) Clark, Jessica Danner, Murphy and Rush Gray, Thomas, AJ, Reece, and Ella McGugin; and four great grandchildren, Hailey and Sierra Johnson, Jade and Mariah Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Thomas McGugin Jr., sister, Betty Sue Murphy; and four brothers, James, Paul, John, and Tommy Murphy.
