Mary Ellen Herron

January 17, 1931 — May 9, 2024

Mary Ellen Herron, affectionately known as Mary, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on January 17, 1931, in Baxter, Tennessee, Mary was a beacon of kindness and love throughout her life. Her gentle spirit and unwavering compassion touched the hearts of all who knew her. Mary's final days were spent in Cookeville, Tennessee, surrounded by the warmth of her family and the memories of a life well-lived.

Mary's journey began as the daughter of loving parents in the small town of Baxter. Her life was one of dedication and service, marked by the enduring love she shared with her late husband, James E. Herron, until his passing on October 26, 2002. Together, they built a life full of joy and purpose, including the successful operation of the Winona Motel in Cookeville, which they owned and managed for many years. Mary's entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to her community were evident in the way she ran her business and cared for her guests.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Ray Dilldine, and her brother, Bob Dilldine. Her legacy, however, continues through her cherished family. Mary is survived by her grandsons, Stuart Dilldine of Gainesboro and Heath Dilldine of Cookeville, as well as her step-grandson, Jim Herron of Michigan. Her great-grandchildren, Heath Dilldine, Jr., Railey Dilldine, and Elaina Dilldine, will forever carry the lessons of her kindness in their hearts. Mary's sister, Christine Nabors of Sparta, along with several nieces and nephews, will also hold dear the memory of her loving presence.

Mary's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of the House of Prayer Revival Center in Rickman, Tennessee, where she found strength and fellowship. Her involvement in the church community was a testament to her belief in compassion, service, and the power of prayer. Her faith was very important to her. She read her Bible daily.

Those who knew Mary were blessed by her kind, loving, and gentle nature. She had a way of making everyone feel special and valued, and her impact on her family, friends, and community cannot be overstated.
