Mary Dyer

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Dyer, 95 of Cookeville, will be Monday, August 22 at 4 PM at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 1 to 4PM at the church. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Bro. Andy Brewster and John Mason will officiate. Mrs. Dyer died Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born October 8, 1926 in Monterey to the late Edgar Paul and Rose Etta Garrett Black. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice "Bernie" Seay Dyer on October 8, 2010; son, Richard "Dickie" Lynn Dyer; sisters, Nancy Black Fitzpatrick and Peggy Black Walls; brothers, Paul Black, Jr. and Teddy Black. She was a 1944 graduate of Monterey High School. She was a homemaker. Mary was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts, spending time with family and friends. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Mark C. and Ellen Dyer of Cookeville; brother, Robert Black of Winter Park, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; special nephew, Ben Wardwell; special friend and son, Johnny Arnold; special friend, Barbara Robinson; granddog Rocky. The family wishes to thank the staff at Cookeville Regional Medical Center Covid Wing for their care and support of Mrs. Dyer and Chaplain Kelly Stockton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Special Olympics, or Easter Seals.
