Martha Degrie

Martha “Marcy” Ann DeGrie, age 74, was received by her Savior in Heaven on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, while surrounded by family and friends in Hillsboro, OH. She was born on February 12, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio to Eugene and Lavella (Davis) Corthell. Marcy graduated from Springfield High School (Ohio) in 1966 and was married that same year. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. In 1980, she started working at ParGas in Cleveland, TN then transferred to Suburban Propane in Cookeville, TN in 1987 where she worked until she retired in 2010. Her hobbies included sewing, bowling, cooking and traveling. She was a member of The River Community Church where she enjoyed volunteering in the children’s ministry and cooking for the youth group for years. She definitely took John 21:17 “Feed my sheep” to heart. She was extremely passionate about her family and loved them fiercely. Her zest for life and laughter were infectious. She created a home that was always open and often used as a place of refuge to many. She was intentional with her relationships, enriched every life she touched, and leaves a wonderful legacy of unconditional love. This precious soul is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Lawrence “Larry” Alan DeGrie; her children Debbie (Ben) Gibby, Larry DeGrie, Marlene White, Robert (Beth) DeGrie, Kristy (Dean) McKenzie, and Royce (Eve) DeGrie along with her 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as her devoted sisters, Barb Wilcox, Linda (John) Bergman, Debbie Davis, Vellaree (Bill) Swarthout; Carol (Royce) Wright, Ginger DeGrie; brothers, Ron (Sue) DeGrie, Patrick DeGrie and Nelson DeGrie; and her best friend of 60 years, Candi Corbett. She was blessed to be part of a huge extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Corthell, Lavella Irene and Lawrence Robert DeGrie, her brothers, Thomas Corthell, Jerry DeGrie, Timothy DeGrie, brother-in-law, Clark Davis; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Corthell and Sharon DeGrie. Arrangements are as follows: A Memorial Gathering will be held in Ohio on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at Swanton Church of the Nazarene 315 W. Airport Hwy, Swanton, OH 43558. In addition, a Celebration of Life service will be held, Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at The River Community Church in Cookeville, 1200 Miracle Rd, Cookeville, TN 38506.
