Sparta - Marilyn Edith Ellis passed away on her Birthday July 13, 2019, at St Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta. Mrs Ellis was born July 13, 1931 to Edgar Lee (Knoxville, TN) & Edith Olson Lee (Chicago, IL). She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Ellis; parents, Edgar & Edith Lee. She is survived by brother Ed Lee, sisters Nancy Nelson & Janice Flavin. She was blessed with her son David Lee and daughter-in-law Debbe Lee, two Grandchildren Amy Lee (John) Willis & Andy (Joselyn) Lee; Great Grand Children Laura, John David, Jackson, Sarah, Noah, Josiah, Karisah, and Jeremiah all of Cleveland, TN. Also she was Blessed with over 40 nieces & nephews. A Special Thank you To her niece Amy & husband Joe Dittman of Houston, TX for caring for her the past few years! Marilyn grew up in Chicago, IL graduating Austin High School. She met the love of her life Charley Ellis in an Irish Pub in Chicago. After a Whirlwind Courtship of 6 months they married on December 14,1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church Chicago, IL. They were married 46 Years! In 1979 Marilyn & Charley moved to San Mateo, CA where she was employed at GE as a Corporate Secretary for 10 years. Mr. & Mrs. Ellis enjoyed years of square dancing, cruising the ocean & traveling to different square dancing events all over the country. They moved to Cookeville, TN in 1994 and joined The Heavenly Host Lutheran Church in Cookeville,TN. Marilyn was a great support of the Sparta White County Senior Citizens Center. She had 30 years of Volunteer work with the White County Community Hospital receiving over 12 separate awards for thousands of volunteer hours & finally “The Presidents Volunteer Service Award” from the White House in Washington D.C! A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Dyer Funeral Home in Cookeville, TN. with Reverend Andrew Smith officiating. The family will be receiving friends starting at 11:00 am. Burial is at Highlands Cemetery in Sparta, TN. In Lieu of flowers please make a donation to Heavenly Host Lutheran Church Cookeville or the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
