Marie Wilmoth

Marie Wilmoth, 93, died Sunday, November 21, 2021, in Cookeville, TN. She was born on October 13, 1928, in Algood, TN, to Charlie Bartlett Wilmoth and Ovie Magdaline Smith. She earned a B.A. degree in Elementary Education as well as a M.A. in Supervision from Tennessee Tech. In 1977 Marie was chosen Putnam County’s “Teacher of the Year.” She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, teachers sorority as well as Putnam County, Middle Tennessee, State and National Education Associations. Marie’s philosophy was simple: “As a teacher I believe that I also have the responsibility for helping children to develop good moral behavior, to achieve respect for others and for self, and to appreciate life and the world we live in.” She was a member of Post Oak Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School classes, Bible School in the summers, and served as church and Sunday School pianist for many years. Marie was the ultimate crafter and spent many busy days at the Algood Senior Center. She enjoyed bus trips to new places, reading, cross word puzzles, and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dewey Eston Wilmoth and his wife Robbie, and a niece, Edna Joyce Wilmoth. Marie is survived by her nephews, Guy Edward Wilmoth of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Richard Gordon Wilmoth and his wife Susan of Williamsburg, VA; great nephews, Mark Edward Wilmoth of Mt. Juliet, TN, John Gordon Wilmoth and his wife Renee of Franklin, MA, and William Fount Wilmoth and his wife Megan of East Greenbush, NY; a great niece, Michelle Renae Taylor and her husband Robert of Smithville, TN; as well as many great-great nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be conducted at Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home on Friday, November 26, at 1:30 p.m. by Pastor Ryan Barnhart. Burial to follow at the Algood Cemetery.
