Marie Chapman

Graveside services for Marie Raines Chapman, of Algood, Tennessee, will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Algood City Cemetery. Marie passed away at home Monday, June 27, 2022, surrounded by her daughter, Lisa Chapman Fowler, and her son-in-law, Buck Fowler. She was born August 23, 1934, to the late Estes Raines and Gladys Stover Raines. She was a graduate of Algood High School and a proud member of the Algood community. She was a member of the Algood Church of Christ for most of her life , where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many of those years. She served as a bookkeeper for the County Court Clerk and the Register of Deeds of Putnam County for over 20 years until her retirement. Outside of work and church she loved spending time with her family and enjoying Atlanta Braves ballgames and the University of Tennessee Volunteer football games. She also had a love of the beach and traveled there whenever possible. She married Juan Chapman on June 8, 1957, at Collegeside Church of Christ and they had been married 55 years when he passed in October 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Chapman Fowler and her son-in-law, Buck Fowler. She also leaves a brother, James Raines (Becky) of Algood. In addition to her parents and husband, Juan, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Clint Chapman, who died at the age of 18 in 1981. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Raines Bullock Smith, who passed in December 2021. Marie was a sweet, caring, God-fearing Christian woman who touched many lives with her kindness. She treasured her children and spent hours playing with them and instilling Christian values in them. She loved to cook and blackberry cobbler was one of her specialties, but her role as Mother was her true happiness. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
