Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Glenna Marie Dennis Burke, 83 of La Porte, TX and formerly of Cookeville will be held at 12noon on Friday, February 28 in the Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Burke's family will receive friends Friday from 10am until 11:45am at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. She was born on October 5, 1930, and went to be with the Lord her Savior on February 24, 2014. She was born in Richfield, Kansas and grew up in Cookeville, Tennessee. She retired from General Motors in Dayton, Ohio. Marie moved to La Porte, Texas, after the death of her husband of 38 years, Denver Lee Dennis, to be near her son and family. She spent many years working at the Lou Lawler Seafarers' Center in Morgan's Point, Texas. Marie was a member of First Baptist Church of Pasadena, Texas. Marie is survived by her husband, Jarrell Burke and her son Jerry Dennis and wife Alice of La Porte, Texas. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Ray and husband Terry of Arcanum, Ohio. She is also survived by her grandson, Joe Dennis and wife Lisa of Austin, Texas and granddaughter, Jennifer Bosley and husband David of Pearland, Texas. Her great grandchildren, Abigail, Noah, and Kate Dennis and Trinity and Raylee Bosley made her smile and put a twinkle in her eye. She is survived by her sister-in-laws, Genova Dennis Sparks and husband Howard, Myrtle Vinson Dennis, and Winnie Dennis Clinton, all of Cookeville. She is also survived by brother-in-law Don Tarpley of Farmersville, Ohio. Marie also loved her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins so very much and smiled thinking of each of them. Marie cherished her many friendships that she made wherever she went. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Denver Lee Dennis; her parents Roosevelt and Brownie Morgan Madewell; her brother Kenneth Madewell, and her sister Lois Tarpley. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living in Pasadena, Texas for the respectful and loving care that was given to Marie during her final days. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Rise School of Houston, Texas which is a preschool for children with and without disabilities.
