After graduating from high school in Wisconsin and collegiate study in Illinois, Marie enjoyed a distinguished career as a railroad officer for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Until her retirement in 1987 she demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to her career while raising two children as a single mother. Throughout her life, she also maintained a passion for travel, caring for her pets, reading, knitting, and cooking which she shared with her loved ones.

As an active member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church, Marie possessed a deep faith and fostered a beautiful legacy of kindness and service to others. She enjoyed daily devotions, Bible study, and inspiring others through a daily prayer blog that she maintained for many years. She was also well-known for spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, offering them not only material assistance but the invaluable gift of quality time and attention.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Schueman, and husband David Eller of Cookeville; her brother, Gordon Hanson and wife Jeanine of Leesburg, Florida; her grandchildren, Sarah and Shane Olson of Cookeville; and Charles J. and Julie McCann of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; her great-grandchildren, Isaac and Gabi Marquez; Elijah Olson, Hunter, Jordan, and Payton McCann; and her great-great-grandson, Ozias Marquez.

She now joins the departed company of her loving parents, Lyle Oliver and Eleanor Kiesow Hanson; her devoted husband of forty years, Charles Brown; her son, John David Hanson; and her granddaughter, Kesley Marquez whose presence she deeply cherished.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor Marie's life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.
