COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Funeral services for Mrs. Margie Alice Smith Copeland, age 84 will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevens Street Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Sand Springs Cemetery. Pastors Scott Parkison and Lee Bailey will officiate.

Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Stevens Street Baptist Church.

Margie passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by love and fond memories. Born on July 19, 1940, in Cookeville, she dedicated her life to her family and community.

Margie worked as a hairstylist at Lu-Ray Beauty Salon, where her artistry and warm spirit made a lasting impact on her clients and colleagues alike. Beyond her professional achievements, she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, roles she embraced with pride and joy. Her greatest accomplishments were found in the love she shared with her family and her unwavering commitment to being there for them through every stage of their lives.

Margie was a longtime active member of Stevens Street Baptist Church, where she fostered lifelong friendships and contributed to her community. She found joy in painting and often shared her artistic creations, bringing color and creativity into the lives of those around her.

She is survived by her two daughters, Annette (Ed) Swallows of Maryville, TN, and Audrey (Tracy) Cody of Cookeville. Margie was a beloved grandmother to Jason (Selene) Copeland of Ashburn, VA, Jessica (Zach) Lynch of Maryville, Michael (Jen) Cody of Sevierville, TN, and Samuel (Jaime) Cody of Algood. Additionally, she took great delight in her great-grandchildren, Cassie, Will, Kaylee, Lincoln Copeland, Matthew, Drew, and Nathan Lynch, Elijah and Graham Cody, and Oliver and Kieran Cody.

She is also survived by her sister, Willene James; and her brothers, Freeman (Geraldine) Smith and Ray (Sue) Smith. Margie will be missed by many beloved nieces and nephews, who carry on her legacy of kindness and love.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward and Stella Mae Robinson Smith; her husband of 63 years, James (Jim) Hollis Copeland; brothers Arvil, Louis, and James Smith; and sisters Alene Bohannon, Lucille Ford, and Pauline Gentry.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael and Sam Cody, Zach Lynch; great grandsons, Matthew, and Drew Lynch; and nephew, Michael Copeland.

Beverly Nash, Kathy Choate and Bonnie Parkison will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stevens Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 327 W. Stevens St., Cookeville, TN 38501.
