Funeral Services for Margaret Irene Bacon Hale will be Monday, September 23, at 1:00p.m. at the Cookeville First United Methodist Church . Rev. Drew Shelley and Dr. Martin Thielen will officiate. Burial will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Hale's family will receive friends Sunday from 5-8p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and again Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church Mrs. Hale passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her husband Steven Porter Hale, Jr. and her parents Ellis and Margaret Madison Bacon, sister Helen Brown, brothers Ellis Bacon, Jr., Morris Bacon, Reed Bacon, Pryor Bacon, and Jim Bacon. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Helen Bradley (Ed) of Chattanooga and Dottie Hale of Knoxville; two grandchildren Sarah Margaret Bradley and Michael Joseph Bradley, and sister in law Josephine Bacon. Mrs. Hale was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1943. After graduation she was named home demonstration agent for Bledsoe County and moved to Cookeville in 1949 with the University of Tennessee Extension Service where she met her future husband Steve Hale. They were married in 1951 in Chattanooga. She later attended Tennessee Tech receiving a Masters Degree in Education and served as Guidance Counselor at Cookeville Junior High for many years until retirement. Mrs. Hale was very active with her college sorority, Girl Scouts, First Methodist Church and other community activities. Pallbearers will be nephews Pryor Bacon, Jr., Reed Bacon, Phil Bacon and special friends Mike Medley, Roger Johnson and Davis Watts. Mrs. Hale's family suggests that Memorial Contributions be made to the Cookeville First United Methodist Church, 165 East Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501.
