Malcolm R. Williams

Mr. Malcolm R. Williams Jr., 81, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 1, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness following surgery. Malcolm Williams was born in Nashville, Tennessee on August 12, 1935 and spent his childhood living in Tennessee and later, New Orleans, LA. He attended high School at The McCallie School in Chattanooga and later received a degree in Engineering from The University of Tennessee. He served honorably in the US Navy. Mr. Williams established Camp Country Lad, a boy's camp in Monterey, Tennessee in 1962 and began a lifetime career as a camp director. He was a beloved figure and positive role model for the thousands of boys who attended Camp over the next 56 years. Camp Country Lad continues to operate to this day where his legacy will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of young men from all over the country. Mr. Williams attended First Presbyterian Church in Cookeville where he has served as an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Williams is the son of the late Malcolm R. Williams, Sr. and Dollie Smith Williams. He is the grandson of Rutledge and Graeme McGregor Smith of Cookeville and William and Kate Williams of Chattanooga. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his sister Marion Williams Kelley and her husband George Kelley. He is survived by wife of 53 years, Patsy Chandler Williams; daughter Marion Elizabeth Williams and her husband Matthew Arbour; son Malcolm McGregor Williams; grandchildren Andrew Louis Arbour and Margaret Graeme Arbour; sister Eudora Williams Graham and her husband George Graham as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation with the family of Malcolm Williams will be held from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, July 8th at the First Presbyterian Church in Cookeville, Tennessee. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date at Camp Country Lad. Memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund for campers made in his father's memory: Malcolm R.
