Funeral services for Mr. Luther Dow Fields Jr., age 89, of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 23 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Richard Key officiating. Entombment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 - 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Fields died Monday evening, June 20, 2016 at his home. He was born August 8, 1926 in Jackson County, TN to the late Luther Dow Sr. and Tillie Rodgers Fields. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Mickey, Dennis, and Ronnie Fields; four sisters, Emma Jean Woodard, Vera Hunter, Willene Massa, and Eva Woodard; two brothers, Bill and Bobby Fields. Mr. Fields retired from McCord-Winn Textron in 1991 after 35 years of service. He and his family enjoyed spending time at the lake. He taught many to water ski and even enjoyed water skiing himself until age 72. Luther was an honest man and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Sue Messenger Fields, son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Leesa Fields of Nashville; and daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Kenneth Franklin of Cookeville; two sisters, Ruth Johnson of Cookeville, Frankie Massa of Mt. Juliet; four grandchildren: Clint Franklin, Matthew Fields, Rachel Fields, Kerri (Jamie) Bullock. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
