Louise Gaw

July 6, 1954 — December 25, 2023

Anna Louise Gaw, known affectionately as Louise to her family and friends, passed away at her residence in Cookeville, on Monday December 25, 2023 . Born on July 6, 1954, also in Cookeville, Louise's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family.

Louise was the cherished wife of Michael B. Gaw, with whom she shared a loving marriage since April 22, 1988. Louise was a devoted mother to Cynthia Smith, Howard Stanton Gaw (wife Beth), and Sherry Gaw. She was a proud grandmother to Emily and Ethan Smith, and Michael Gaw and Maverick Crowell.

She was the only sister among six brothers, and from a young age, Louise learned to be resilient and strong. Her brothers, Jimmy Loftis (wife Marianna), Billy Loftis (wife Denise), Ricky Loftis, and Michael Loftis (wife Darlene), brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eddie and Frida Gaw will remember her as a formidable presence with a heart of gold. Louise was a beacon of support and friendship to her special friends Robert Gaw and Rhonda Chaffin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Violet Hix Loftis, her father and mother in law Howard and Flossie Gaw, and her brothers, Bobby and Donald Loftis, leaving behind a family that will forever cherish her memory.

Louise, alongside her husband Mike, owned and operated Gaw Rentals until their retirement in October 2018. Her work ethic, coupled with her ability to connect with people from all walks of life, made their business not just a success but a community staple.

An adventurous spirit with a sense of humor that could light up a room, Louise never met a stranger. She was always the first to extend a helping hand, and her generosity knew no bounds. Her love for the outdoors was evident to anyone who had the pleasure of visiting her during spring, as she would be tending to her beautiful flower gardens and vegetable garden. Louise found joy in the simplicity of nature and the changing of the seasons, and she inspired others to find beauty in their surroundings.

Louise's life will be celebrated at her funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday December 28 at Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Pastor Mark Gaw will officiate. Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the church and again Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
