Lorraine Maddux

d. October 7, 2016

Lorraine Maddux passed from this life on October 7, 2016 after a brief period of decline. She died at home in Cookeville, surrounded and cared for by her loving family during her final days. Lorraine was born Sara Lorene Isom on September 6, 1928 at her parents' home on the family farm on Flat Creek in the Allisona community of Williamson County. Lorraine grew up on their self-sufficient farm learning the virtues of honesty, integrity, fair dealing and self-support. Lorraine attended David Lipscomb College before marrying Owen Douglas Parks in 1948. After living for a few years on the Parks family farm, also in Williamson County, they both obtained jobs in the private sector and moved to Nashville. While living in Nashville they had their first child, Teresa Ann. Owen found opportunity while working with George T. Randolph at Randolph & Cole in Nashville and subsequently made plans to establish a business in Cookeville with George, whereupon the family moved to Cookeville in 1955. Shortly after locating in Cookeville to establish the business they had their second child, James Douglas. When Owen and Lorraine settled in Cookeville they immediately began establishing friendships in their business, civic, and church circles that were maintained all their lives. In 1964, after Owen passed as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident, management of their business, Randolph & Parks, succeeded to Lorraine. From then, Lorraine, with George Randolph and his other partners as mentors, managed the family business until she fully retired in 1995. Lorraine was blessed with support from many wonderful friends from church and her Jaycettes group while she nurtured her family as a widowed mother. In 1975, after her children were off to college Lorraine married David H. (Dave) Maddux and embarked upon an exciting new chapter of life. For 18 years Lorraine and Dave were together while they nurtured their families, travelled the world and were deeply involved in community and church affairs, all while continuing to operate their respective family businesses. In 1993 Dave passed, leaving Lorraine surrounded by an extended loving family of their collective five children and fourteen grandchildren. Lorraine was known and respected in Cookeville as a good businesswoman, and a devoted member of Collegeside Church of Christ. Lorraine was a kind-hearted and fun- loving person with a joyful spirit. She maintained life-long friendships with her associates from the business world, civic clubs and church, although her greatest devotion was to her family. She was well known for being a thoughtful and caring person who supported many others by organizing and preparing meals for families of sick and bereaved people in the community. Lorraine was preceded in death by her first husband, Owen D. Parks, as well as her second husband, David H. (Dave) Maddux; her parents, James Ellis Isom and Ollie Geneva Eady Isom; a sister, Audrey Isom, brother-in-law, Pete Eudailey, and Dave's daughter Alice Maddux and daughter-in-law Martha (Carlen) Maddux.
