Lonnie Burgess

BAXTER-Graveside service for Lonnie "Hooper" Love Burgess, 66 of Baxter, will be Saturday, January 8 at 1 PM at Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery for the service. Harold Ralph Maynard will officiate. Mr. Burgess died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born March 8, 1955 in Carthage to the late Burnest Love Burgess and Mary Betty Sullins Burgess. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Ivy Jean Burgess, sisters Mary Frances Green and Patty Burgess, brothers Denton and James Burgess. He was a carpenter until his health declined. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, going to the kids sporting events, his dogs and he enjoyed reading and studying the Constitution. Survivors include wife of 36 years (Married June 29, 1985) Suzanne Lawson Burgess of Baxter, daughter Heather Love Burgess of Lewiston, Maine, sisters Lois Hargis of Sparta, Susan West of Interlachen, Florida, Lisa Anderson of Silver Point, Penny Burgess of Baxter, brothers Gene Bellar of Gainesboro, James Bellar, Russell Bellar,Dwight Burgess and Doyle Burgess all of Peru, Indiana, Bill Johnson of Lebanon and JD Burgess of Baxter, grandchildren Noah and Andrew Barker, his pet dog Speckles, host of nieces and nephews.
