Leonard Freeman Brown

Funeral services for Leonard Freeman Brown, age 85, of Silver Point, will be at 11 a.m. Friday August 24 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Pastors Jimmy Arms, Tim Frank, and Scott Parkison will officiate. Interment will military honors will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Friday from 10 a.m. until service time. Mr. Brown passed away Wednesday morning August 22, 2018 at Bailey Manor in Cookeville. He was born October 2, 1932 in the Bloomington Springs Community of Putnam County, TN to the late Luther and Mary Tays Brown. Mr. Brown was an US Air Force veteran of the Korean War and member of the American Legion. Mr. Brown worked as a technician with Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, CA and later retired from Rohr Aircraft in Riverside, CA with over 30 years of service. He was a faithful member of Stevens Street Baptist Church where he served in several capacities including usher and greeter. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Willene Farley Brown, who he married January 1, 1951 in Livingston, TN; daughter, Robbin (Glenn) Sloat of Silver Point; brother, Leamon "Pete" Brown (finance, Gaylia) of Mt. Juliet, TN; sister, Mabel Lee of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Cody Sloat(Melissa Villa), Ashley Sloat, Corbin Brown, and Adam Brown; eight great-grandchildren, Lilly, Holly, Scott, Kevin, Luke, Jared, Ace, and Nick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott Brown, sister, Marie Curtis; and grand-daughter-in-law, Aubrey Brown. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Care Center at Stevens Street Baptist Church, 327 West Stevens Steet, Cookeville, TN 38501 or Lighthouse Christian Camp, 205 Serenity Place, Smithville, TN 37166.
