MONTEREY CHAPEL - Leon Louis Phillips, a beloved resident of Monterey, Tennessee, passed away suddenly at his residence on Thursday October 17, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on July 19, 1952 in Monterey, he made a lasting impact on his family and community throughout his life.
Leon had a fulfilling career, retiring after 35 years at Perdue Farms, where he was known as a dedicated worker and a respected member of the team. His strong will and organization were hallmarks of his professional journey, traits that also defined his personal life.
Leon known for his incredible warmth, serving as an amazing grandpa and father. He had a loving and caring nature, combined with a humble disposition that endeared him to everyone who knew him. His strong-willed personality and organizational skills were particularly noteworthy, and they were traits that guided him throughout his life. Leon held a special bond with his dog, Rex, who brought him much joy and companionship.
In addition to his commendable attributes as a family man, Leon enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He took pleasure in cooking on the grill and was a fixture in front of the television every Sunday, where he watched football-a tradition that brought him and his family together.
Leon is survived by his daughter, Samantha Phillips, and her husband, Kevin Garcia; his brothers, Johnny Phillips and Randy Phillips; and his cherished grandchildren, Elaina Jade Garcia and Naomi Wynter Garcia. He was formerly married to Regina Tabor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Donie Swafford Phillips; two infant sisters, Joyce and Glenda Phillips; and his brothers, James and Lemuel Phillips.
A funeral service honoring Leon will be at 11am Saturday October 26 at Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday from 10-11am. Leon will be laid to rest at Stamps Cemetery with other members of his family.
Leon Phillips will be remembered not only for his contributions to his community and family but also for the love and laughter he shared with those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
