Lawrence Kowalski, age 78, of Cookeville, was called home to be with our Lord on Saturday evening March 30, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Lawrence was born July 12, 1940 in Detroit, MI to the late Walter and Bridget Swider Kowalski. He married Margia D. Ward on January 29, 1962, in Detroit, MI, and have been blessed with 57 years of love. He worked as a painter with Champion Spark Plug Co. in Detroit and retired after 25 years of service. After retirement, he moved to Cookeville where he worked in janitorial services at TTU and later with the Cookeville Police Dept. Lawrence was a member and usher at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and former board member of Cookeville/Putnam County Crime Stoppers. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Marie Balicki (and her husband Gerald); nieces, Tina Balicki Hartless and Peggy Reddmann Tilley; and brother-in-law, Richard Reddmann. He is survived by his loving wife, Margia Kowalski; two sons, David Kowalski, Daniel (Christy) Kowalski; grandson, Peyton Kowalski; daughter, Doris Kowalski, all of Tennessee. He is also survived by his brother, Jim (Geraldine) Kowalski of Macomb Twp. MI; sister, Kathy Reddmann of Gaylord, MI; grandson, Peyton Kowalski; nieces, Theresa (Greg) Fame, Susan (James) Metzgar all of Gaylord, MI, Carol (Michael) Rall of Rockford, MI, and Stacy (Charlie) Whited, Cookeville, TN; nephews, Jerry Balicki Jr. of Warren, MI, Jimmy (Brandi) Kowalski of Birmingham, AL, Kevin (Kristen) Kowalski of Macomb, MI, Jason Ward of Cookeville, Timothy Reddmann of Gaylord, MI, and Robert Balicki of Roseville, MI. Funeral Mass will be at 12 noon Thursday April 4 at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, and again Thursday from 11 a.m. - 12 noon at the church.
