Funeral services for Lt. Col. Lawrence (Larry) Oscar Thomas, Sr. USAF (Ret), 90, of Anderson, IN and formerly of Cookeville will be held Sunday, January 22 at 3 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Roberts officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the U.S. Honor Guard, will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends Saturday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Thomas died Thursday morning January 18, 2012 at St. John"�s Hospital in Anderson. He was born October 31, 1921 in Anderson, IN to the late John Carl and Lillian Ethel Hackler Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a member of Collegeside Church of Christ in Cookeville. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Air Force with twenty five years of service. He and his family lived in Davidson County, Tennessee from 1967 until 1983 where he served a term as Mayor of Forrest Hills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mundy Thomas and a sister, Ethel Thomas. Mr. Thomas is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Margie Thomas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marsha Harrell, and Beth and Dr. Scott Brown, all of Cookeville; seven grandchildren, Scott L. Brown, Julie Thomas, DeAnna (Victor) Bullard all of Cookeville, Jacqueline Brown, John Chapman both of Nashville, Kathy (Jamie) Harrell-Latham of Minneapolis, MN , Tommy (Katie) Harrell of Sioux Falls, ND; nine great-grandchildren, Randall Chapman, Jacob Chapman, C.J. Chapman, Gabe Bullard, Sean Bullard, Addy & Bella Harrell-Latham, Tommy and Eve Harrell; and sister, Donna Ruth Schoger of Lake Havasu, AZ. Memorial contributions may be made to Mustard Seed Ranch, 4955 Kuykendall Rd., Cookeville, TN 38501. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Early this morning, Master Control gave clearance to Lt. Colonel Lawrence O. Thomas for takeoff. With a smile on his face he pushed the throttles forward and at 3 a.m. he slipped the surly bonds of earth, reached out and touched the face of God. High Flight Dad. We will miss you.
