The family will receive friends from 1-9 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 18, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Herren died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center, with his family at his bedside. He was born Feb. 18, 1923, on his family's farm near Baxter to the late Oscar and Delina Randolph Herren. Mr. Herren was a member of Holladay Church of Christ and formerly served as a deacon. He was an avid student of the Bible and strong advocate of the gospel. He was employed by and brought the initial glass trade practice to Adams Sign and Glass Company in the 1960s and later to Lacy Glass and Mirror Company. He then founded Herren Glass and Mirror Company, which he operated until his retirement. He loved his trade and equally loved his interaction with his customers and the satisfaction he gave them. This, along with many special requests for his skills, led him to remain active in his trade for several years after retirement. Mr. Herren served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His family includes his beloved wife of 62 years, Marie Elrod Herren, originally from the Burgess Falls Community of White County; four children: daughter and son-in-law, Norma Herren and Richard Eidson of Chattanooga, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny Herren of Knoxville and Mark and Della Herren of Cookeville, and daughter and son-in-law Sue Ann Herren and David Ray Smith of Cookeville; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Julie Tullis, her husband Michael and daughter Miranda of Chattanooga, Steve Herren, his wife Aimee and children Logan, Kaylin and Koryssa of Cookeville, Bryan Herren of Knoxville and Addison Smith of Cookeville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Odis and Louise Herren of Dayton, Ohio, and James and Jo Ann Herron of Cookeville; a sister, Orna Herren Henry of Cookeville; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Henry Herren and Lora Lack Herren, both of Cookeville; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Prent and Velma Maynard Elrod; two brothers, Arvel and Charles Herren; a sister, Odell Herren Clemons; and two brothers-in-law, Georgie Clemons and Clifford Henry. Mr. Herren was a generous man and would be honored to have a donation made to any charity in his name. Please contact the funeral home for a list of charities the family prefers. Bro. Johnny Fox will officiate at the services.
