Funeral services for Mr. Roy Kenneth Vaden, 81 of Monterey will be held Saturday January 7 at 2 p.m. at Monterey First Baptist Church with his grandson Jon Trevor and Rev. Corey Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Whittaker Cemetery. Kenneth's family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Kenneth died peacefully Wednesday morning January 4, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Monday July 22, 1935 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Athie and Lena Mae Smith Vaden. In 1954 Kenneth graduated from Monterey High School and began working for Martha White Bread Company. He later was employed by Ely and Walker Manufacturing Company. Kenneth was the former owner of Monterey Texaco and was retired from the U. S. Postal service with 30 years of service. Following retirement, he was a funeral assistant at Horner Funeral Home. He was a life-long member of Monterey First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Teacher. He was actively involved in Children's Church, the Food Pantry, and the Hispanic Ministry. Along with his service to the Church, Kenneth served the community in several capacities. He officiated little league baseball and was a referee for high school sports in the Upper Cumberland area. Kenneth was a faithful blood donor, and was a member of the Monterey Civitan Club for 40 years. He was a charter member of the Standing Stone Health Care Board of Directors. He served on the Board of Directors of Volunteer Electric Cooperative for 30 years (secretary and treasurer for 19 years). He also served on the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Board in Nashville for 12 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Willodean Officer and Geneva Miller; and four brothers, Bobby Vaden, Paul Eugene "Boob" Vaden, Billy Earl Vaden and Harold Douglas "George" Vaden. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Eliese Randolph Vaden (whom he married February 11, 1956 at FBC in Monterey); three daughters and two sons-in-law, Belenda and Lee Trevor of Hendersonville, TN, Karen Vaden of Crossville, and Libbie and Johnny Oehlschlaeger of Hendersonville, TN; six grandchildren, Mandy Trevor, Jon (Stephanie) Trevor, Jared Trevor, Adam Varney, Emily Varney, and John Michael Oehlschlaeger; and two brothers, Calvin (Ginny) Vaden of Battle Creek, MI and Morgan "Mert" (Ann) Vaden of Monterey. Pallbearers will be his Lee Trevor, Jared Trevor, John Michael Oehlschlaeger, Adam Varney, Chris Vaden and Larry Vaden.
