Suleiman Kamal Baldwin, affectionately known as Kamal to all who loved him, passed away on February 11, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee. Born on November 7, 1991, in Jos, Nigeria, Kamal's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an unquenchable zest for life.
Kamal's journey began as the cherished son of Wayne and Amina K. Baldwin. His childhood was filled with the warmth of his family's love, including his sister Khalila, brother Tariq, and his grandmother Lucille Chalmers. He was blessed with a close-knit family, including his aunts Meiram Kolo, Halima Abdurrahman, and cousins Farid and Suleiman Zarma. Kamal's life was built on a foundation of family and heritage, a legacy from his grandparents Nigerian Ambassador Sule Kolo, and Helen Patricia Holness, who preceded him in death.
Kamal's passion for storytelling and creativity led him to pursue and earn a bachelor's degree in film production from SAE University. Dubai. His education was not just academic; it was an exploration of cultures and a testament to his global upbringing as an US Air Force Brat, living mostly in the Middle East. This rich tapestry of experiences shaped Kamal into a truly global citizen.
Professionally, Kamal channeled his talents into a successful career as the Director of Digital Content & Digital Media at WCTE PBS, Central Tennessee. His work was not just a job but a canvas on which he painted his visions, sharing stories that mattered and connecting with communities in profound ways.
Those who knew Kamal will remember him as a beacon of joy—a person whose presence alone could transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. He had the rare ability to mimic others, a talent that brought endless entertainment and laughter to his family and friends. Kamal's personality was a harmonious blend of fun, loud, and funny, yet he was also deeply thoughtful and introspective, a man who lived his life out loud and left an indelible mark on the world.
Kamal's interests were as diverse as his background. A lover of film, skateboarding, music, food, and travel, he pursued each with an infectious enthusiasm. His adventurous spirit took him to new heights and distant shores, but no matter where he roamed, his heart remained firmly anchored in the love for his family. Kamal was truly special, and his ability to live his life out loud was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In every sense of the word, Kamal was funny, loving, and adventurous. His laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of those around him, and his love was a gentle embrace that comforted and uplifted. Kamal's adventurous nature was not just about seeking thrills; it was about embracing the beauty of the unknown and finding joy in every moment.
Kamal's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the courage to be unabashedly oneself. He will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will continue to bring smiles and warmth to those he left behind.
